Advice on quality of the work and what to do next

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi, I've employed a carpenter going by 50, 100% feedback. To install 2 firedoors and 3 normal doors inside my flat. I supplied doors, hinges and handles. All 5 doors are as u walk in our 3.5 meters long hallway. After they have left I inspected the work and straight away noticed that the door handles are all different height. Cupboard door handle is 995mm from the floor and toilet (directly opposite) is at 1045mm. Some doors when closed have play on the latch so draft will make the door bang a bit when closed. I used Atlantic Status handles and carpenter said one of the bathroom lock 5mm spindles was missing. Even thou it was in a sealed bag! Seems to me like he lost it, rather than Atlantic forgetting to pack one in! But asking me to buy another one. Door handle vezels/frames are square and half of them are not straight. Screws supplied with Eclipse hinged have rounded heads now. As he used wrong bit or didnt use impact driver?! Most of the router/chisel work is messy, some hinges, door latches and door strikes are not flush or straight and have gaps as wood was routed too wide.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Unfortunately Dmitri_86 you have not hired a carpenter, you have hired a cowboy. It sounds like you're going to have to replace the doors and get them hung by a professional.
