shortening a wooden shaker door
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.48 PM
I wonder if anyone can tell if its possible to shorten the height of an oak shaker kitchen door. Door is 600 wide x 900 high, but needs to be 720. Is it possible to remove the bottom cross section cut the middle panel and sides then re-join the cross section. thanks in advance

Should be fine so long as the cutting is accurate, or you end up with a lopsided door.

If the door is made of 5 pieces and the frame has been joined together with dowling then a good accurate cut through the joints of 1 edge and the centre panel should be able to slide out but yet you need to know if the door is solid and this is done with checking the back if that is flat compared to the front then the front of the door has had the design machined in.

You can cut the doors but you are loosing a lot of the shaker style. This is fine if the only door in the kitchen but i doubt it.
