Fencing

Erecting a fence..is it hard? Help needed

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Hello everyone. I want to extend my fence 4 metres onto my drive. (so that the shed goes onto drive freeing up some of my patio).this would also mean moving a gate and one metre of fence forward it line with the new fence. How easy would this be? See picture at https://ibb.co/fCFQd5 (if you require any more pictures I am happy to email them)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The only difficulty would be if there are pipes or cables under where the posts would need to be, but even that can be overcome. Start by digging down 2' for the new posts, if you don't find anything then you are fine. If you find pipes or cables you will need to dig away to find where you can get to about 2' depth. Put 8' posts in and concrete them in with postcrete. Open the bag, pour the contents into the hole around the post and then put enough water in to make it into a think paste type of mixture. You need to do this fairly quickly as it sets in about 10-15mins. When you have done all of the posts like this and they have set in the concrete get rails, the horizontal bits and the gravel board, the flat board that sits on the floor and nail/screw them to the posts setting them as near to horizontal as you can with a spirit level. Then you can start to nail/screw the feather edge, vertical boards to the rails. Set them vertically with a spirit level. I just did about 20' on my own yesterday in less than two hours. So it is not difficult. The hardest part is if you try to reuse the existing fence, getting the timber separated without damage is not easy. Good luck, come back to me if you need any more help with it.
