Is there a call out charge for a lock smith that is contracted with a developer on a new build?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

I recently bought a new build property. I've lived in the property for about two weeks. When I had the home demo, I did struggle to lock the front door and mentioned it was stiff. The site manager said it's because it is a new door, so it will be stiff. Two weeks on and I've just snapped the key trying to open the door. I've called the out of hours emergency but am unsure from the call centre if this would be an under warranty type job or would I have to pay and what is average price for this? (Weekend) The call centre said it would be a contractor who works with the developers. Thanks

Hi there, I'm an experienced Locksmith of 25yrs. I'm afraid to say that the answer to this isn't simple, it really depends on the contract your housing company has with the locksmith and what is included. I would guess that to be covered under warranty that call outs would only be covered in normal working hours, Monday to Friday 9-5pm and emergencies/out of hours wouldn't be covered. So, I'm afraid you are likely looking at paying, expect to pay aroudn £75 to £100 if you call out of hours/weekends/bank holidays. Good luck! Ian (Saffron Home Services)

If this under warranty and you needed it repaired, there should be no charge, however, if it is an emergency and out of hours then there maybe a charge. If you where in my location and I was the contracted locksmith. There would be no charge, unless other parts of the door was a problem.
