Replace French doors and separate windows with bi folding doors

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

As part of a kitchen redesign I'd like to remove our existing French doors and replace with bi folding doors extending the size by approximately 1 meter. I also want to replace the existing kitchen window again with a bi folding door and again extending the width by approximately 1 meter. Someone mentioned this might cause an issue with support and the may need additional support in the foundations. Grateful for any advice on this. I was also given an estimate of approx £1k each to widen the doors with approx £4K each for 2 x 3meter bi folding doors. Again grateful for any advice. We are in Livingston, West Lothian.

Hello If both bifolding doors go into the same wall, that might be an issue and a pillar of some sort is required, espeacially if that wall is part of the house's support structure. But that depends on the total width and height of that particular wall and its actual structure. We are a young company with young blokes who deliver windows and doors and provide with refurbishment services.
