What is the best way to seal new plasterboard for tiling?

What is the best way to seal new plasterboard for tiling? I was once told to use diluted PVA and now know for certain that's the wrong answer as if it ever gets damp, the tiles just fall off. Ideally I'd like something which still allows the tiles to be removed without too much wall damage in the future as the tiles I've just taken off from this room were completely bonded to the plasterboard in such a way that there was no way to separate them (hence having to plasterboard the whole room). From what I'm reading, perhaps I should have used a different type of board in the shower area (over a bath). I'm wondering if I can fix this by applying a waterproof primer. It was previously tiled on to bare plasterboard in the wet areas with no issue for 20 years, but I'd prefer to prime it with something if that's best-practice. Should I use a standard acrylic primer or is there something better to use for tiling?
