Is 45db acoustic glass going to reduce noise enough on main road
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM
HI, We have been exploring both triple and acoustic glass and I've been told that having 2 different thickness of glass i.e.) acoustic is best than 3 of the same. Ive been quoted for 45db acoustic glass - is that sufficient for a busy main road to cut out the traffic noise? Thanks!

Hello,
Yes acoustic glass will reduce noise more than triple glazing, triple glazing helps in achieving better U values.

Triple glazed units are only a hyped up selling point as double glazed units are more than enough for our UK weather.
Acoustic glass is very expensive and not always the best option and how it works is that acoustic glass consists of two or more sheets of glass, bonded together with one or more acoustic interlayers which the wave sounds bounce off.
With triple glazed units, wave sounds will just carry on through each pane of glass because they are all the same thickness (4mm).
By ordering your sealed units with one pane @ 4mm and the other @ 6mm, the wave sounds will slow down because of the different thicknesses, giving you a cheaper acoustic glass option.
I hope this helps
