Foundations For Pier For Steel Beam
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM
Hello, We will be needing to put in a steel beam across our first floor walls as we are removing a wall. The Structural Engineer has said we will probably need to build a pier or a box frame. If we were to build a pier, what depth of foundations would need to be dug? Also what is the minimum depth a wall has to protrude? Thanks.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi If the structural Engineer has stated the you require a pier building he should also tell you what size base that you require and also the strength rating of the concrete I.E C30/C40 as this will take into consideration all the weight that is being transferred onto the base from the steel and the building/structure above it.
This should also apply to a box section be it thickness of the wall of the box section, size of box section connecting plates, holding down bolts and connecting bolts.
The main thing is to ask as this is what these guys charge a large sum of money for.
Hope this has helped a little and your project goes well.
