door knobs need replacing
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM
Someone fitted a door knob set with a 45mm backset. We keep skinning our knuckles on the door jamb. Is it possible to take off the knobs and replace with levers, without replacing the whole set?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, sort of...
What you will get is something like this:

You unscrew the knob if it has a little grub screw and then unscrew the plate and you will be left with the mechanism inside the door and the square bit the knob or handle holds to turn the latch.
All you do then is put the new lever on and screw that on in it's place.
You can get loads of different types so it is worth looking around on eBay/amazon/etc.
Screwfix often do good value too and will deliver if you are not near one of their stores.
