Which mitre saw to buy?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

I'm about to replace my staircase and want to buy a drop-down/mitre saw to cut the spindles and handrails with. There is a massive variation in price, could anyone recommend a decent one which will do the job. I don't need anything professional, as it will only be used for this job and maybe once a year thereafter for skirting boards etc... I would describe myself as a competent DIY'er. Thanks for the responses so far. I'm considering buying this from Screwfix: http://www.screwfix.com/p/evolution-rage3-s-210mm-single-bevel-sliding-compound-mitre-saw-240v/60839 I will also need it to cut through Newel posts which measure 90mm square, will it work? I don't understand the cross-cut specifications?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There are some for sale at screwfix at £50 upward i would reccomend the titain 210mm single bevel compound saw that is also 230/240v which means you can plug it straight into the sockets in the house and it will cut the handrails and spindals your looking to do also any other future work your aspiring to do

i would recommend screwfix they have a great choice and although you don't want to spend much as it won't get used that much its always better to spend a little more as it will last a lot longer

If you want to purchase a Mitre Saw Screwfix have a large choice and plenty of stores in easy reach, however, always remember that you get what you pay for with tools unfortunately, so I would recommend spending a little more. When purchasing tools, I always recommend Makita, Dewalt or Bosch if any of their tools are within budget. If i was in a similar position and wasn't sure if or when the saw would be used again I would recommend hiring one for as long as you may need it, by doing it this way you'll get access to a professional tool for a fraction of the cost. Kind regards, Tim @ David Timothy Interiors. Edit, unfortunately the rage one that you have linked to will not cut a newel post, the maximum cross cut specification is the maximum width and depth that the saw can cut so it will cut 220mm in width but only 60mm in depth which won't be deep enough to accommodate the 90mm newel post.
