Best paint for skirting and doors

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi All, Apologies if this question has already been asked. I want to paint my whole house, both new and old skirting boards and doors. I was planning to use the Zinsser 123 Bulls Eye Plus Primer/Sealer Paint for the old skirting boards. I'm planning to use satin. Gloss is too old fashioned and Satin or egg-shell is the most modern looking. I was planning to use a water based paint so it does not go yellow. Please could an experienced professional tell me if I can use the Zinsser paint ( make sure it's not just a sealer)?? Also what is the best trade paint for the new wood (already undercoated)? It needs to be white, water based and satin I think??? Really appreciate your advice. Thank you. D.

Hi D, Zinner can be used as a primer or blocker, I would advise using oil base satin as the finish will be sharper, smoother and harder wearing. Oil base are better now for the colour change, they have been improved over time. One more bit of advise use roncell knotting solution on the knots as will bleed though in time.TRADE DELUX CENTRE for the paint. Good luck. Ryan

Hi D, Zinsser is usually a spot primer but in all honesty you could you use it to prime the skirting with no problem. You have the options of water based of oil based top coats. Water based can be a little harder for novices to achieve as nice of a finish and is also more sensative to the brush used to apply it. You will need a fully synthetic brush not the typical natural bristle. The positive is that it will stay white for a lot longer than the oil as in 2010 the law changed and certain additives were romoved meaning that in area where you don't receive a lot of natural light the oil based paint can yellow quite rapidly. Positives for both.. Oil = tough and easy to apply Water = stays white and easy to clean up Thanks, Raw Decor.
