Painting & Decorating

Normal weekly clean of water based satinwood on wooden surfaces.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

l have just had my bathroom decorated, the woodwork was painted with a water based paint. How do l clean it? Went over the windowsill with a damp cloth and it became tacky, tried to dry it with a cloth but had the same effect. Not much good if you can't clean the woodwork of dirt and fingerprints! Be grateful for any ideas. I have to admit - I hate water based paints (Dulux) Also used it in the hall and up the stairs and all the doors! Was told that it would be quick drying and better for the environment, all true BUT was not told that it wouldn't be as hardwearing as oil based paint. It has completely worn down to the coat underneath on the newel post top and bottom of the stairs! I noticed online that you can buy metal newel to put over the top, any good? Be glad to here from you experts what you think. .

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, It depends on the water base paint you have used, cheap water base is generally not great. I would advise DULUX cant go wrong or oil base would be more practical for cleaning. warm soapy water should clean with no problems.
