Black and White cable to fit to plug

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

I ordered some cable to fit to a lamp and plug. It has a black and a white cable which has thrown me off! Which should go to neutral and which should go to live? It has an amp current rating of 8 and the plug has a 3 amp fuse. Is that ok?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would advise using the white as live and black as the neutral as the black core would be more recognisable as the neutral. Assuming the flex is of 0.50mm and above its fine with the 3amp fuse.

Hi As long as you use the same colour for live and the lamp and at the plug you will be fine. Really it doesn't matter about the colour as long as the polarity is correct at each end. Ideally colour is used to identify live or neutral but they are just copper cables with a sheath on the them.

Hi As long as you use the same colour for the live at the plug end, as the lamp end, then there won't be any issues.
