Attaching load bearing wooden partition to steel I beam

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi, I want to fit some internal folding doors after we knock through a load bearing wall and get a steel fitted (engineer has done calcs and builders booked to do work - no issue here). The folding doors will be the hanging type - supported only from the top, no bottom track - about 20kg each, 4 doors. I will need to install a partition wall in the structural opening to fit them into under the steel/between brickwork, or at least fit some timber for the door frame and rail to attach to and hang off. How do i attach the wooden frame to the steel i beam? Thanks, Mark

if you havent ordered the beam yet ask them to drill holes to bolt through to atatch the timber or you can hire a drill that clamps on with an electro magnet if the beam is in its place

As mentioned above, bolt a timber plate on the rsj and build off that. Mag drills are good but save time and get a few holes done every 400mm centres.
