Decking Timber Treatment

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Hi there, To cut it short, im looking to put some decking out in the garden. Pricing it all up and the tantalized timber for the joists is working out a lot! Seeing as the treatment on the timber only soaks in 2-3mm and i'd still have to treat any cuts, can i not just use c16 or even cls and paint it with a cheap fence paint? cheers Lewis

C16 is the good choice as it's treated timber as it will last longer

c16 refers to the structural grade of the timber not the treatment. As decking boards are in most cases constantly exposed to the weather I would advise against using anything other than tanalised boards.

My advice is don't cut corners, don't spend all the money on decking boards with poor quality timber for joist work. C16 is mainly for house joists or stud work all of which is covered and not exposed to the elements. Go extra and get the tanalised material. You should try your local saw mill as the prices should not be that much dearer than C16.
