If we're getting a room plastered do we need to strip the wallpaper first?

Our bedroom is papered with woodchip, and I reckon the likelihood of the plaster being in good nick by the time we're finished stripping it is pretty low.
So the question then is, if we're going to get the room plastered, do we need to strip the wallpaper before the plasterer comes in? I.e. is it worth us doing that, or would the plaster have an easier/more efficient way of getting rid of the wallpaper?
I understand that the wallpaper definitely needs to be removed; that's not my question. My question is whether a plasterer coming in might have an easier/more efficient way of getting rid of the wallpaper, as he won't have to worry about preserving the plaster.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you have to strip the wallpaper first in order to plaster the walls and ceiling.you can do it yourself if you have a good steamer and a scraper proper for wallpaper, and you can have the job done in few hours and save you some money as well thanks,F.
The plasterer will not do much more then you you have to be sure you have removed all bits of wall paper and then he knows what to do next is going to prepare he's walls with screen tape and pva and then plaster the room you don't have to worry to much even if i has to to some bonding preparation kind regards F.
Yes remove the wallpaper , of course the plasterer can do it for you but he will be charging a plasterers rate for doing it and may not have allowed the time for it perhaps affecting other booked in jobs.
Can be annoying woodchip and no easy way around it.
Try lifting it without wetting
The try wetting and see if that is easier
If not then score the paper and try wetting again
If thats not working then the steamer is needed but bear in mind it can blow the existing plaster off the wall if you hold it in one place for too long.
Also be careful about water around electrics.
Another point to remember is to remove all the paper from awkward places , loosen switches and have radiator removed if applicable.
Its a good question and nobody likes removing it but its very unlikely the plasterer will have any magic remedy to speed it up so you will pay for his time.

Yes every little bit of the wallpaper has to come off first before the plasterer pva's it, it's up to you if you decide to do it yourself or the plasterer does it. The only thing is if the plasterer does it will cost you a bit more money so it will benefit you if you do it yourself. Try and use a steamer to make it easier for you though
It will be cheaper for you to strip and clear away all wallpaper I would also check behind paper it maybe that you yourself could paper line the walls and save yourself money and then paint, but please make sure all your walls are dry before ringing the plasterer as they may charge you a call out fee.
