Can a soil stack go on the front of a house?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM
Looking to put an upstairs bathroom in a 19c end terrace house (current bathroom is in a small lean-to type extension on the ground floor at the side of the house). I'm thinking the easiest thing to do would be to put the soil stack on the very edge of the front wall (just in case we ever have money to extend in the future and also the lean to extension is where the stack would need to go on the side wall)...is this possible or are there rules against this? (It's in a conservation area). If not possible - is there a way round the extension being in the way? Thanks

Being a conservation area you will need to seek permission from the local planning committee, it will probably not be granted if the pipe can be seen from the road as will be classed as being detrimental to the look of the area.

Yes you can put the soil stack at the front of the property, providing that it has a clear and correct flow to the correct manhole waste, sometimes large amounts of pipework to the front of any property is not the best to look at.
