Relocation of Mains Gas pipe

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

My mains gas pipe comes into the property behind my front door. It sticks out away from the wall by about 2-3 inches. The front door, when opened, hits the pipe when the door is about 4/5ths open. The front door has recently been broken so we need to replace it. We've had multiple door companies come round who've said they cannot replace the door as they're not allowed to fit a door that hits's the pipe, and that the door when opened to it's fullest does not leave the required amount to be a legal fire exit, so our only option is to have the pipe relocated. We've contacted National Grid who've had a look and said due to current regulations, the only option we have is to have the pipe outside go into a box attached to the front of the property, and then have pipes which would have to go all the way up the side of the front door, across the top of the front door and then into property and join where they currently are. This will obviously look hugely unsightly, but we need to replace the front door. Rock and a Hard Place. Just wondered if anyone can think of any other regs which might allow another solution? Thanks -Ed1 Smaller door not much of an option as door is already very small. Box is a good idea thanks, not sure if it would get around the regs for how far open it has to go to be a legal fire exit though.

First you have to think of changing the door to the smaller size.? Secondly build a box around pipe.( pipe should be in box even if the door is not close to a gas pipe) so the door will not hit the pipe directly
