Problem with thermostatic valve on bath

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Hi We have a problem with a new thermostatic valve with shower attachment on our bath taps. The thermostat is on the right but hot feed is on the left. After reading some posts am I right in that the thermostat should be feed by the hot water? At the moment we don't get any hot water when we turn the thermostat to full hot unless I pour hot water on the tap! After a short while it will open and let the water through. When we turn down the temperature it goes fast and slow like it is struggling. Cold is good pressure while hot is cylinder feed and we live in a bungalow. Would it be worth trying to swap the feeds over? Thanks for any help.

You maybe describing a Shower mixer valve or a Thermostat Mixer Valve (TMV) either way there are normally small blue & red circular stickers on the valves to indicate which is the hot water and which is the cold connection. Take another look to see if you have installed it correctly! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Update: It sounds to me that your cold water is mains fed and you state that your hot is fed from the hot water cylinder, if this is this case then change the cold water feed from mains and reconnect it to the cold water storage tank instead. You need to maintain an equilibrium of pressure as one is greater then the other at the moment, however even if this is the case you will still have poor flow rate at the shower so I would strongly recommend you fit a dual mixer shower pump such as the example below, this will significantly improve the flow rate to the shower. https://salamanderpumps.co.uk/pumps/ct-range/ct-75-xtra/ copy and paste link into your browser NB: Make sure if required to select the right type of pump, either negative head or positive head, if not sure speak with Salamander tech team they will be happy to advise.
