Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

i have a house built in the 1940 the render goes all the way to ground level. im looking to remove the render to above damp course and paint brick work as will be unsightly. how high pass damp course should i remove render and if we paint should we apply a damp proof paint before painting with black paint?

You are also fine to sit level with your DPC the main thing is that the DPC has not been bridged The ground level should be 150mm bellow DPC when you chop back the render slightly go higher then install a bell bead and re render in then decorate the bell bead will push any water that comes down the outside face of the building away from the wall if you go onto Google and type in bell bead render then click on images you will see what I mean. Hope this help cure your problem Simon. SKC Construction Ltd

100mm is a good distance above the damp proof course and I'd go straight for the waterproof black paint. It will be fine so long as you have cleaned the brickwork of dust etc.
