What is the average waste for a 3 bed semi detached?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

I have just had my whole house has fitted. It is a new build and there the carpet fitters have left me with: 2 x roughly 1-1.5 metre height carpet roll - this looks like 10-13% so that's average... 8 x vinyl roll height ranging from 30cm to 1metre...is this normal? Stairs were 3.1x4 (carpet) Lounge/3 bedrooms / landing 14.3x4 (carpet) Ensuite/ 2 x baths 1.5x2m + 2.5m x3m(vinyl) Kitchen/Hall 6.9m x4m (vinyl) I am interested and hopefully this can be informative for other first time buyers.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, the waste can vary massively depending on the shapes of the rooms you are laying in. Squares rooms normally produce less waste, with L-shape and odd shaped rooms producing alot of waste. As for vinyl floor rolls you can only buy them in certain sizes if your using "off the shelf" items, so if you bath room is just over sized you would end up cutting a small amount off a new roll and end up with a lot of waste. It can be worrying when you see the amount left over but it is not unusual. I hope that this has helped. Mark
