Brick walls with wood built in them?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Are these load bearing walls can i take down? Property is 1850. In 1 of bedrooms i have taken plaster back to bare brick and it has wood built into the brickwork. A wall is approx 3m and has 2 vertical from floor to ceiling and 3 horizontal the whole width between each upright wood. Does anyone know what they are?

Hi, sounds like you have a brick infill stud wall. It is basically a timber stud wall and then the gaps are bricked up. This is fairly common with bricks often being laid on their sides to account for the narrower thickness of the timber stud. You can either fit mesh over the timber before replastering or fix plasterboard over the whole lot before skimming. Best of luck, Rob
