Removal of partition wall

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Im looking to remove a wall in my home, its a ground floor wall and appears to be a stud wall. i assume its not load bearing but obviously cannot be certain. before i get builders to quote for the job is there anything i need to do first? do i need to get a structural engineer to inspect it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It's always wise to yes however most builders worth their salt will be able to tell you if it is or not it may require a small amount of mess to be able to expose an area to be sure However. If you're really serious about Removing it get a SE in and get them to provide Calcs for around £150/£200 then you can hand this to your builder so they can give you an accurate costing

two simple ways before you pay for an SE-check if there a wall above, expose small area in ceiling to see if joists from both rooms are joined atop of stud wall this is the case in most houses so a small rsj would have to be placed for support
