Windows & Door fitting

Who should fit windows and doors?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

Hi, we are currently having replacement windows and doors made in timber, but the builder that was going to fit them has dropped out. I have read that they should be fitted by someone who is FENSA registered. Is this correct? Would be grateful for any advice, thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, FENSA is a self certification scheme for window fitters which means they can issue a certificate stating that they have been installed according to the relevant building regulations. You can use a non registered installer and have your local building control certify them for you. Contact your local council to check fees and the process for arranging inspection if you wish to go this route. Best of luck, Rob

They should be FENSA registered. Having said that, it is something of a quango. The people registered with them have been checked for competence and insurance etc. Having said that, I have fitted dozens of windows alongside FENSA guys and my windows have looked better than all of theirs. I seem to be more exacting than them. I wonder if this might be because they do it all the time and are a tad complacent, whereas, because I do less of them I am absolutely precise. Not sure what benefits FENSA offer, but I offer five years of guarantee with my work and the materials have their own guarantee. I suggest looking at the FENSA website and making your own decision from there. I might be wrong and discover that you need FENSA for insurance reasons or something, but I can only advise on my own experience.
