Loft Conversion

Has anyone heard of a new system for loft-conversion

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi all, 30s terraced house, and due to some money being given, would like to convert loft into a bedroom and bathroom. Have had 4 companies come and look, 3 have come back with quotes (1st company won't despite being chased - their loss). 2 of the 3 have said the ceilings below would need to be lowered, but 1 has said not, and when I pressed them on it, came back with this answer, "We do not need to lower the existing ceilings as we would introduce an engineered and proven shallow floor and ceiling system to your project therefore allowing us the 2 metre head finished clearance in the new loft with out lowering the ceilings". Does anyone know of new systems that might account for this? Loft is boarded at present with 18mm board, and from the top of that to the start of the ridge beam is 2100mm. Many thanks, Alex

Hi there, it's difficult to say without knowing more detail but there is a system called Telebeam which may allow this, it really depends on things such as clear span of the loft floor without support as to how high these beams have to be but upto a 5.8m span requires a 150mm beam which should still allow the minimum head height whilst keeping the existing ceiling height in rooms below. Good luck with your project, Rob
