Feasible to turn galley kitchen into U shaped Kitchen?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM
Hello, hope you can help. We're looking to buy a property that currently has a galley kitchen, but by removing a wall a U shaped kitchen would fit. The cabinets are new so would want these reused. The wall to be removed has a radiator one side and the gas cooker the other. I'd like to know if this is a big job to complete or if I'm overcomplicating it. Moving a gas pipe seems to a big job, but maybe it's not?! The house is in Woodley. Thank you for reading.

You will need a gas safe registered plumber to move the gas, and they should be able to move the radiator too.
Neither is a big job to be honest. Should not take a capable plumber more than an hour or two if you know where things are going and the plumber can get to that point or cap off until the wall is removed.

The works required are possible however you would required a gas safe engineer to re-position the gas pipework and certify the works you would also require a qualified electrician with 17th edition electrical regulations qualifications to certify all the electrical works. If the wall to be taken down is a supporting wall you would also require a structural engineer to work out the load to be carried by the support beam. It is very possible that you would require building warrants for these works
