Boiler fault, hot water only works if central heating is on?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.15 PM
Hi, I'm an electrician and my customer has a faulty boiler... had a 'engineer' out who has told her she needs a new boiler, I'm sure that's not the case. Basically she has to turn CH on for the HW to work, is that not just the divertor valve at fault and could be repaired. Boiler is a Glowworm and is about 15 years old. Job in Oldham

To all well meaning heating engineers who are Gas Safe, please consider your answers before responding to questions on a public forum of this nature as you may be complicit in assisting the general public in attempting to repair there own gas appliances.
Not only is it illegal but potentially unsafe for any non-competent person to attempt any repairs to a gas appliance. and further more I am certainly not suggesting the poster is attempting to solicit advice for that purpose!
Surely the best advice we can offer when the general public are in difficulty is for them to contact a Gas Safe engineer who specialises in boiler breakdowns (in this instance) to fault find and make good repairs!
