Shared looped supply and cross bonded gas meters
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
Hi, I am having a new consumer unit fitted, the electricity supply is a shared looped supply on our ground floor flat, the meter tails are skinny, and the earth is about 6mm,they're due to be upgraded by SSE. The steel wired armoured cable that continues to the upstairs flat also has skinny earthing ( from the head?) BUT my problem is the bonding on my gas meter seems to be just a cross bonded onto their 6mm earth that runs to their consumer unit. Is this normal with shared looped supplies? Or am i liable to alter it with having a new CU ? thanks bright sparks!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Each individual premise should have its own Main Protective Earth Bonding to gas, water, oil and any other pipework etc that enters the property. So in short yes as part of your consumer unit upgrade work new separate bonds to your gas and your water etc will need to be installed.
