Yes aswell as make floor ready for tiles, there is a product out there called Detra, its orange sometimes blue, anyway it is excellent for laying on floorboards to then tile has it allows movement and breathability for the top surface therein making it very adaptable, it will give you a soild foundation and many years of good service. Try any good supplier such as screwfix,TradeUK B&Q, Robert Price. and for further info and data put it in your browser and it will soon find it for you DETRA flooring. Hope all gos well chris

you will need to overlay the floor before tiling floorboards are not a suitable background for tiling .Usually plywood is used, british standards recommend a minimum thickness of 15mm, Another option, and better in my opinion, is to use cement based tile backer boards these are 10mm thick. If the floor is badly off level a flexible self leveller could be used on top of the overlay before tiling. Sam

yes you should first put a layer of wpb plywood screwed at 150mm centres or a layer of flexible floor matting such as detra matt to avoid cracking with movement

Hi, Ditra matting is an option, people are still using plywood, but British Standards no longer recommend this, opting for HardiBacker of similar cement board, with ALL loose boards secured firmly first. Flexible tile adhesive is also a must.Hope this helps, Chris.
