What to use to stop damp coming through ground floor

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.08 PM

I have water coming in from an external wall. Seems to me that the water comes through at the bottom. I can see the concrete where the render has left small holes and gaps. The wall is about 3.5m long. What would be the best solution? Cheers

Hi James, it's hard to say exactly without seeing it but if you have a gap between the bottom of the render on the walls and the concrete then this can be filled with an angled cement fillet that will seal the gap and allow water to run off away from the building. I hope this helps. Best of luck, Rob

Hi, In addition to above I would recommend to trench along that external wall, fit a dump proof membrane then fill it back with ground and then make a concrete angled fillet to run the water away or even better fix a ground gutter.

Hi there If the exterior ground level Is higher than the internal floor level then a French drain would help ,followed by chemical dampproof injection at floor level to prevent rising damp ,followed by tanking the internal wall surface, this will involve the removal and reinstatement of existing plastered finishes ,but would provide a long term solution to your current problem prior to any preventative work being carried out the source of the ingress of water should be indentified and prevented regards dale
