Rainfall shower head only lets hot water out once tap is turned?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi guys🤓. Hope you can help! Recently just finished a bath & shower install. Recessed mixer showers fitted to shower unit and in the bath. The system is a gravity fed. 4 bar pressure on the cold outlet and 3 bar on the hot. Problem- you turn the shower mixer on and the rainfall shower head just drips water. So I leave that dripping and then turn the hot sink tap on and water flows fine from the tap. As soon as I turn the sink tap off the shower head kick into life and flows fine. Turn the shower mixer off and leave for 10 mins or so and turn it on again and the same problem surfaces, Dripping water!!! Any ideas would be a great help. I'm going to drain the hot system/tank and refill to try & see if an air lock is the issue.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sounds like you have a pump in place but because you have a gravity system and the shower heads height, it doesn't enable a standard pump flow switch to trigger, but when you do the tap there's enough flow to trigger the flow switch and then you'd turn the tap off but there's still a flow for the shower. You need a negative head pump but they don't come cheap. This recognises a flow and/or a drop in pressure. Draining the system may not cure the problem.

I Agee with LD Plumbing and heating about the pump. If an air lock is in place, draining the system could make things worst. Just to mention, if pressure was at 4 Bars on the cold, you wouldn't need a pump, probably is 0.4 bars. (4 Mt in height between the cistern water level and the point where the test was taken. I hope this helps to clearify. Tiziano
