Tiler job in bathroom- lippage around some tiles

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Hi, I have had someone put tiles up but they are not even and I believe I have a so called Lippage. Can this be rectified just by taking the odd tiles out and replaced?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sometimes if there is lip on one tile you can take it off and make it better, sometimes you take it off, you fix the edge you do not like better, but the opposite edge got a lip now. In most of the cases should take 3-4 tiles to make it look better. And of course when you taking off tiles there is always risk to brake tiles you do not want to change, to damage the wall or tanking, which will need to be made good before re-tiling.In general a running bond, or brick pattern is not recommended for large format tiles, you should not overlap joints more that 1\3rd the length of a tile to try to avoid lippage.

Replacing always is possible. But if you do not have spares, it's highly risky to try to replaces with the SAME TILES. Maybe only a 5% rate of success, with a lot of work for it. could not be reasonable. Usually a good installation will never let the tile come off entire and not chipped. Even if you could take the tile off, there are rest of adhesive on it's back, that is again risky to rip. If the lippage is not too severe, could be from the tiles manufacture, not necessary to blame the tiler, tiles aren't perfect.

Hi Johnathan, Yes lippage can be rectified, this is due to bad workmanship nothing to do with tiles or manufacture but fault of the tiler.

Yes lippage tiles can be changed, breaking the tiles carefully and removing it then scraping the adhesive out and removing any proud areas. Then reinstall tile with adhesive and use spacers to set correctly, grout next day
