Supporting steel if a chimney has been removed

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Recently purchased a house and want to remove both chimney breasts starting from the bedroom - I am currently having a new roof installed and the roofer had offered to remove the chimney. Is this beneficial for the chimney breast removal, can I just knock out the brick in the loft and not install a supporting steel? Any advice would be most appreciated

If your only taking the chimney down to celling level then you won't need any steels. Just take it down below the rafters and cap it off with a slate as I take it your not using the chimney at all.

i would use a steel slate to cap off the exposed hole and at all times make sure the ceilings are supported until the job is finished. Aslo start from the highest point first and make your way down.
