Why can't you get 22mm bore showers?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.26 PM

I'm trying to set up a gravity fed shower. I understand that having 22mm pipes will give a better flow rate (better shower?) than 15mm, so I'll make sure the pipes are 22mm all the way to the mixer tap. This is where I have a problem, the outlet to connect a shower hose on the mixer tap is always 15mm! So that scuppers my whole plan. Is there anywhere I can get hold of a true 22mm mixer tap? Also, if the hot is 22mm and the cold is 15mm is this a problem? (they're both fed off the same header tank). Yes, the obvious answer would be to install a pump. However will require a lot more work and learning on my part, and I can't afford to hire a plumber, when they want to charge me £5,800 just to literally re-route a couple of pipes (work I've almost completed myself in 2 days at a cost of £300). However if I can't resolve this shower issue it's all going to be for nothing :( Can anyone offer any advice? I'm now considering building a water mixing system from thermostatic vavles and compression fittings, it's going to look really rough.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
