Skim over shower waterproofing in area where not tiled?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi everyone, We have used a shower waterproofing kit to tank a shower cubicle on all sides, including the ceiling, but have only tiled the walls. To finish the ceiling now, is it possible to skim plaster over the tanked surface before painting? Thanks for your help!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the surface is able to fix tiles to you should be able to plaster it. Drying time will be increased due to low/no suction though and couldn't be sure it won't crack or potentially fall in 1 lump. Personally I'd have just used moisture resistant plasterboard for the ceiling, so if you are unsure about the tank kits ability to hold plaster id consider changing the ceiling as an option.
