Damp Proofing

is dry rod better than damp proof cream?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.07 PM

I've been recently informed that I need a new DPC due to the original one failing and being below the inside floor level. 1. Firstly, is this correct? does the DPC HAVE TO be level with the top of internal floors or is it simply the recommended 150mm? 2. If DPC is required are Dry Rod DPCs better or the injected creams? Thanks in advance

With a cavity wall. if you are injected on the internal wall. then you must drill your holes, to take either dry rods or cream, in the brick bed as close to the floor as possible. hopefully the course is at floor level. When you render do not render to floor. You can , but it should then be cut to above new dpc. This stop a bridge between floor and render. A waterproof addictive should be added waterproof to your render, hopefully you have also a salt inhibitor. if the outside floor is higher. then this should be reduced, or a French type drain inserted along wall. Filled with shingle. Hopefully I have explained this okay

Hi the DPC if you can accesss below the timber joists is the optimum place to inject the cream. Sometimes it is impossible to get to the joists when carrying out retrospective DPC work. If you can get just under the joists, then this forms a barrier against rising damp from there upwards. Important to determine the type of flooring as this would not apply with a solid slab floor. In our experience as long as you get a (BBA) approved DPC product, the important aspect is that the indidual injecting is fully trained and knows where to drill and how much to inject. I hope this is helpful.

the best thing would be lowering the outside ground level
