? Wrong paint applied to bathroom wall

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.26 PM

Hi I have been wrongly sold an undercoat for my bathroom walls. They have sold me wood undercoat and I have painted the walls of my new bathrooom!!!!Please can you advise... what should I do? Is this going to damage my walls? Do I need to remove this paint? Can I paint bathroom paint on top?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

nothing to worry about. Water based might even help in some cases to prevent mould, and some decorators use it before aplying Matt , and I belive that's why they sold it to you knowing that you will be using it for bathroom. Sand the painted area properly, and aply 2 coats of Matt.

Hi it shouldn't damage your walls, if it was water based then it will be fine, just lightly sand with a 240 grit paper and paint on top with a good quality bathroom paint, if it was oil based then it still won't damage your walls but will also need sanding lightly and I would use a water based primer coat before top coats, hope that helps

Your walls will be fine.possible problem here is lack of paint grip to the walls.wood waterbased primer is as thick as emulsion which should be mixed with water for priming anyway to go deeper into the wall creating strong bond and base for another full coats of emulsion.regardless to what it was you skipped that step so it's already a weaker structure, However if it was water based just sand it with 120 grit and apply bathroom paint. If it was oil based then check how strong paint holds to the wall...if you able to peel even small strip then it's got to be sanded back as it will come off eventually.if it holds well it still needs good sanding(i would use 120) wipe the dust off the wall and i reccomend you to use -zinnsers 123 primer stain blocker or simular product.it's water based so will give you a good base for bathroom pain also it's designed to stick to most surfaces including oil based paints.

Either way it won't matter. All you need to do is just put a Matt emotion ontop of the undercoat x2 coats and it will be fine. Maybe a little sand in between coats (if needed) it shouldn't do though
