Valliant Ecotec Plus 937-Cant get hot water from two taps..

Anonymous user 7 February 2017 - 8.13 PM

Thank you for your responses so far. Sorry to clarify, hot water from two taps at the same time: i.e. shower in bathroom and tap in kitchen. The plumber is saying it is my fault for not telling him we are on a joint mains. He didn't ask though?! Whatsteps should I take to rectify this? original question below: I had a Valliant Ecotec Plus 937 installed a few months ago, after an old boiler broke down. We opted for this boiler as we were advised it was the only one that would give us hot water from two different sources at the same time. The plumber installed the boiler exactly according to the instructions Valliant provided. But we couldnt get hot water from two taps. When Valliant pro came out, he told us that the water flow was not high enough to support this function. The question is where does the fault lie for this? The plumber said he checked the water flow, but didn't check it with two taps running at the same time. He said the Valliant manual didnt require this test as part of initial assessment. Plumber is trying to blame a) us for not telling him we were on a joint mains and b) Valliant for not being very clear in the instructions that it is necessary to check water flow with 2 taps running before making decision to install. We didn't know it was joint mains. This did not come through in our survey when we moved in. SO whose fault is it, and any tips on best resolution? This would be massively appreciated as I feel we have forked out a lot more money for a more expensive boiler that cant even do what it is supposed to do..

A Boiler is firstly selected on size of property. Gas requirement. Location it's reliability, and cost to suit the clients budget. Before installing any combination Boiler it's always wise to do a pressure test and a water mains flow rate test. Average Combi 24kw Boilers range from 9l per Min 37kw 15L per Min 42kw 17L per Min ect. So for example I have low pressure and installed a 37KW Boiler which can heat up 15L per min and only 7L per min is the incoming Mains flow. Then clearly a Direct Mains boosting option is available. Stuart turner direct mains booster will do the job. And there are also indirect boosting options such as a tank and Pumps using pressure reducing valves to set the required pressure. In any case this is the installers fault as low pressure is always identified before any fitting takes place and the client will always address the matter with options provided by the installer. Technical knowledge and above average installation skills are required to be a wise Plumber. It's the reason I study and never stop learning , cause I want to be the best. Domestic plumbing and heating is to easy to get wrong. Try working on a comunial system serving 200 flats , it's far more testing , but easy when you know how. Thanks for reading. I am certainly not responding to your post to apportion blame, this said, you state you have two hot water sources (unusual) Don't you mean two separate cold water supplies? Please clarify this point of yours before we go any further! 'we were advised it was the only one that would give us hot water from two different sources at the same time'!!!!!!

yes check pressure before installing but make sure you check it a time of high demand,ie 6am to 8am in morning,5pm to 8 pm in evening not at mid day when most people are out, yes please clarify what two different sources ?.your boiler has a 15 ltr storage tank but this still needs filling from main,a lot of combi boiler companies claim you can run multiple hot water outlets but in my experience it does not happen, there is so much that can effect this, water companies do not gaurenty that they can deliver a set pressure, pipes in your installation can effect flow and pressure, pressure will take the line of least resistance ,to overcomb this you need pressure and volume, mains booster will give greater pressure but may not give greater volume as you still have incoming mains pressure and volume.installing a new single larger incoming main may be your best bet.
