Moving/replacing a ceiling pendant light

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi One of the ceiling lights in my lounge/diner is located off to side of the dining room table, I wish to move the light and change the pendant. My questions: Do I need an electrician? If yes how much could I expect to pay? If no can I take existing cables and extend with a junction box in the ceiling and does this fall into part P? Any advice is gratefully received. Many thanks

Hi, Regarding if you need an electrician, not really. If you are bit technical you can mark the cables and do it yourself. It's difficult to guess without having look at work involved. There might be floor boards needs lifting up. If the floor above is tiled it's more difficult. I think this should cost you around £60/£80.

Hi this work doesn't fall under part p, so you can do this yourself. easiest way would be to make a junction box where the pendant is currently and run a new bit of cable to where the new light fitting is going. This could be alot/very easy of work depending how easy the access is to the floor boards from the room above.
