unblocking blocked up fireplace to put in electric fire

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.26 PM

hello, I have just bought a fireplace with a electric fire. i thought that the surround and the electric fire sat on the outside of the wall but I just realised that the fire surround goes flat on the wall and the electric fire is meant to go inside a original fireplace opening.. my old fireplace has been blocked up by the council..originally there was a coal fire, then the council put a gas fire in front of the original fireplace and then they eventually took away the gas fire and blocked up the fireplace so now we just have a flat wall. can i just knock a hole in the wall (diy)where the original fireplace was and install my electric fire or do i need someone to do it for me....thank you

Is it still a council house? If it is the first stop would be to ask them.
