Crispy paint and uneven walls - How do I get them ready to paint?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, I've had a complete nightmare with my walls in my new house having taken down the old wallpaper. The paper was hiding many many flaws and now I'm lost as to what to do. the walls are uneven... so i guess need sanding. but the old paint is flaking off and paint stripper didn't really help at all! how can I get the walls to point where they can be painted... or is plastering the answer? please help. thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Bit hard without actually seeing the surfaces but come across this many tyms what I normally do is strip the paint off with a steamer and carefully scrap paint off without trying to damage wall a other option is seal and fill the wall if none off them help I would suggest skimming the wall hope my advice helps and is off any use good luck any problems contact me

If the paper is already off, concentrate on scrapping the areas where the paint is flaking. Rub down and make good by filling imperfections. Then coat up. If the walls are in a really bad way and you don't want the expense of skimming the walls again you can always opt to line the walls and then paint.
