do i have to pay roofer if he hasn't fixed the problem of leaking gutter?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.26 PM
I have damp in bedroom due to a join where 2 gutter pipes meet on a corner above the side/front door - the 2 pipes do not join up with each other, but instead one is placed above the other, creating a rectangular gap between the 2 pipes and the wall where the rain drips through. I got a builder to come round and fix the leak, plus replace a couple of tiles on roof for a quote of £380 (said they needed scaffold). However, all they did was squirt some foam in the pipe - so obviously still dripping when rains. No idea if they actually replaced the tiles or not as I was at work. I haven't paid up, and not sure what to do next. Neighbour said they were 'incompetent' and didn't know what they were doing (dropped scaffold on their window), so don't for one minute think they are capable of fixing the problem and don't want them back. What are my rights? Do I have to I have to pay them? What is best way to proceed? Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hello good morning,
I don't think any job should be payed for if it wasn't don't correctly.
And especially if you we're not satisfied, however you could all ways call another roofing company and get another opinion on the work that was carried out. Plus with a smaller repair like your job sounds I would of thought scaffolding was not needed. Many thanks John

Hi, I would not be paying for a job that is half done and not upto standard. By the sounds of it they didn't have a clue. It's not a hard job to fix/correct, I would get someone else to repair the work. It could be done of a ladder depending on the hight and location. Foam is not the answer. You would need the correct fitting to join the guttering. Hope this help you.
Good morning,
Most certainly not. You should not be paying them if the work hasn't been completed correctly.
I would ask someone else to come and take a look, they can then provide you with a list of faults and an estimate for repairs needed which you can then pass on to the company you used. This will help you with your case. I hope this helps. Thank you Simon

You should not pay for anything you're not happy with if he looked at the job and said he could fix it and then couldn't fix it why should we charge you for something he can do this is not right you should get in contact with another roofer and have inspect the work that he's done even though he see finished it it's worth paying someone to have a look to see if the job is done correctly then you could pay him or not paid
