How difficult is it convert our extension from a kitchen and utility to kitchen and shower room?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.07 PM

We currently have an extension that comprises of a small kitchen (which will be redoing with this job) and an empty utility area which also has a outside toilet attached. Just wondering how difficult it is to hack a hole so that we can access the utility room from the kitchen (we currently have to exit the back door into the yard and reenter the extension via another external door.) and redevelop the utility area to be a shower room?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You first need to remove a few bricks the property most probably has double skinned brick wall with a 50mm cavity between. A lot of builders would just put a lintel or catnik above where the door will be and mortar in place, rather than support the load barring wall with props and strong boys (tough metal sheet) use a powerful circular/ skill saw to cut through the bricks/blocks(ware a mask, silica dust isn't good for you) or drill through with an sds drill lots of holes around the frame and chisel away. Put up a timber frame for the door then fix door stops, architrave and a door. Simple really. As you already have a utility room you can use the existing plumbing for your shower room or Bose directly to the soil stack
