External Hardwood Door, Damp, Macclesfield Step
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM
Hi There My front door is slightly rotten at the bottom and I believe this is due to the old macclesfield step and no rain bar installed. There is damp coming in the side that is rotten and being sucked up by the plasterwork on the wall adjoining the door frame. Should i replace the door and doorframe with an external wood door and remove the Macclesfield Step. As the door has no protection from the elements as no porch, will a hardwood door contract and swell or soak up the moisture if i take it back to the bare brick ? Im sick of the drafts as there is a gap around door in the frame of approx 6 or 7 mm. I only expect to stay in the house for another 5 years or so, should I go for a Rockdoor composite, or will it be sufficient to replace with a hardwood door, painted with new doorframe and storm guard/rainguard.
