Plastering & Rendering

Plastering over drywall with fibre in it exposed.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.07 PM

Hi all, I am doing a Reno I have stripped the wall paper but in doing so some of the fibre in the drywall / plaster has been exposed. When I plaster over it the fibres don't stick to the plaster and create bumps or come through the plaster. 1. Does anyone know what this type of dry wall is called. 2. Any tips on how to plaster over it? See picture in attached link http://tinypic.com/r/df7qcw/9 Any help is appreciated

You can pva it let it dry then skrim tape to reinforce depending how big the hole is. Then skim it. I've not seen the pictures. What colour is the board?

If the drywall is badly damaged I would apply coat of pva on all damaged areas . Put scrim cloth an all damaged areas then give it a coat of thistle bonding coat so it tightens the board up of slack in any damaged areas . When set I would apply 2 coats of multi finish .

It looks like old heshin fiber scrim but its hard to tell with no scale from the picture, if its all over the walls its horsehair, but if its only in 4 inch width around the joints its heshin. Cut off the excess either way and thistle bond and reskim job done.
