One set of kitchen lights tripping downstairs electrics

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.26 PM

Hi, I have 2 sets of lights in the kitchen - one pendant and the other is 5 spotlights. When I turn the spot lights on it trips the whole of downstairs electrics. This only started happening after a steamer was plugged in a socket in the kitchen but now always happens when those lights are turned on. Any suggestions what the problem could be? Thanks in advance

Make sure lights are isolated ie switch off power where nec, remove all lamps and check they are ok. Check fittings have no heat damage. Switch on without lamps inserted. If this does not trip it could indicate a problem with a lamp. Replace as necessary ensuring the fittings are off when replacing. If it still trips possibly wiring/transformer (if low voltage) or fitting fault to earth. If in any doubt with any of the above please call a qualified electrician.

Sounds like a coincidence with regards to plugging in an appliance. There is obviously a fault on those particular lights. Consult a qualified electrician.
