Moving Radiator on District/Comunal Heating via HIU

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.26 PM

Hi I am a victim of Southern Housing group ripp off/scam called 'district heating' or more appriopriate heating monopol . They place a radiator in the middle of the only wall where I can put in a wardrobe basically making it useless or reducing the size of wardrobe to a chest of drwaers. Is it possible to move it? The management was talking sth about 'carefully balanced pressure' but since my shower on suite lacks any I kinda have my doubts..any help?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I am not familiar with Southern housing group, but do know about radiators. Any radiator can be moved to a more suitable position as long as the pipework can either be left exposed or floor boards removed accordingly. In terms of balanced pressure they are mistaking what we call "balanced system" whereby we would adjust the valves according to the radiators location around the property. However any heating engineer should be able todo this task. Thanks Ronnie

yes it could be moved by a competent plumber or heating engineer, but district heating means it serves other flats etc, so to move it you would need to shut down and drain all other flats, for this you will need your landlords permission and inform everyone else on system, then go round and bleed and balance every rad on the system in every flat,if your pipework can be frozen and valves fitted then you could move your rad,you would still need your landlords permission and your plumber heating engineer would probably have to post a bond with your landlord as freezing pipework can lead to bursts in the pipework and to be honest your landlord would probably not give their permission.
