Best books for understanding Part P domestic wiring

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi, I was decorating a room in my 1950's end of terrace at the weekend and found a nightmare behind one of the sockets, cracked insulation, additional non standard wiring and loose earth leads. I replaced the socket and disconnected the additional wiring but that still leaves the cracked insulation and means the house will need a full rewire, I'm fairly certain. I will not be doing the work but am a techie, so want a good book on Part P domestic wiring so I can understand the subject and the approach to how it should be done, i.e. coping with solid floors, socket positions, cable runs etc.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

IET electrical regulations Amendment 3 2015 ( BS 7671 yellow one ) Along with a 17th edition course. You won't understand it but it's good reading to send you to sleep. It's not part p domestic wiring, part p is a building regulation. Why not get an EICR done on your property?

I think that rather than concentrate on the technicalities of how the wiring should be done (leave that to your chosen electrician), that you should just concentrate on what you want and where you want it, and as a techie what "extra" non standard stuff you might want.
