I am about to extend my kitchen/dining room into a kitchen,diner. To do this will require the removal of a studding wall between the two. Will this require a lintel/joist.

The span of the sodding wall is 3.3m. The room is 4.5m wide and the existing wall is 1.85m from one end, making it two rooms of 1.85m and 2.65m. If I remove the wall the existing joists will span 4.5m. The existing joists are 7"x2" and I guess are 6" apart.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

if it is a load bearing wall it would need an rsj beam if it is not a load bearing wall you still might need to double up the floor joists in the ceiling if the span is too great and normally floor or ceiling joists are normally 400mm apart ,so check these issues before starting the works

If it is a stud wall,then it is unlikely to be doing much in the way of supporting floor joists.There are a number of ways of checking but no one will be able to give you the go ahead to remove it without seeing it and 4.5m is a quite a span for 7x2s(i have been called to remove "stud" walls before that have turned out to be brick!).For complete peace of mind,give a local builder a call to take a look.After all,you may need him anyway if the wall is serving a purpose.
