Can't remove toilet seat screws, sealed pan

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

Hi, One of the sides of my toilet seat has sheared off. It is a sealed pan so I can't get underneath. There are two bolts with phillips head securing the seat to the pan. What ever I try to so to those screws they just spin (there is quite a bit of resistance but they don't get looser or tighter. Any thoughts how to get the seat off(happy to destroy it in the process as need new one anyway)? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi , sounds like a common problem , all you can do is cut them maybe with a hacksaw blade or a multitool with a metal blade in , hope this helps Kind regards Carl Pipworkz ltd

Hacksaw would be the safest option as I doubt you have a multi tool. You've obviously got the butterfly toilet seat connections that clamp down on the pan when screwed from the top. They are easily bought any any plumbing shop if you want to put toilet seat back on. Regards

Angle grinder directly through the top of the seat just above the pan.
